Friday Fives

1. What happened the last time you got furious in traffic?
A power cord was down at the exit ramp to I 25 and Yale. Cars were driving over and under the down line and there was traffic behind me as well. No real way to get out of the situation. I crept through the mess and then called 911 before someone hit the line and got zapped. But it was a real dillema with no real way out of the quagmire.

2. What is your favorite “wintertime” song?
When it snows and is sunny, at the end of the day, I usually turn to the Eagles. Good skiing music. Something like “Best Of My Love.”

3. I dig office supply stores. What is your favorite office supply?
3X5 cards. Yep, index cards rock. I recently found index cards made by Post Its! How great is that. I am also always on the look out for the best pen. I am getting close – but spend too much money on pens in my frantic Research and Development – I buy any kind of gel roller ball i can find and give them a trial run. I hate ball points and as a left hander fountain pens are just too messy, so it comes down to a gell ink roller ball, but the quality and consistency between brands can be a real crapshoot.

4. First time you threw up in someone else’s toilet?
Jamie Creasy was living at the Dickinson’s house on Steele street during his senior year of High School. A whole house to himself, and no parents. (He normally lived way out in the National Wildlife Reserve about 40 miles or so north of town.) Many parties were thrown at that house and I am sure I tossed my cookies in that toilet. Since I was 16 or 17 years old, I imagine it was my first guest toilet.

5. What is the most adventurous food you’ve ever tried?
Well, I have never gone full “Fear Factor” and eaten worms or grubs. I suppose in this day and age, any food eaten at a restaurant can be considered adventurous. I will go with Beef TarTar at the old Queen Of Sheeba Ethiopian restaurant. Eating raw beef. That’s adventuous.

  1. [These were. . .ummm. . .mundane. . .]

    1. I donÂ’t recall any single incident. In general IÂ’m trying to be less angry about traffic incidents, as they are usually beyond my control.

    2. Well, I assume by “wintertime,” you mean “of, relating to, or evocative of winter.” Thus, “Winter Wonderland” is probably the winner. That almost seems too easy. Did I miss the point?

    3. Tape flags. TheyÂ’re great bookmarks, great for pointing out passages in legal documents, or just adding a splash of color to an otherwise dingy document.

    4. Technically, my parentsÂ’ house belonged to them, so IÂ’d have to say that it wasnÂ’t my toilet whenever I threw up as a kid.

    5. Well, I did have the rat pancreas sandwich the other day at Good Times. That was interesting (and mucho zesty!). IÂ’m a pretty adventurous eater in general. If it looks at all digestible, IÂ’m likely to give it a whirl. Which makes me a pretty lousy pet-sitter, btw.

  2. 1.)I don’t really drive in “traffic”. I live near the city center and thus infrequently find myself in an anger-inducing, vehicular cluster-fuck.

2.) This is quite possibly the lamest question ever. “Winter” from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons? Ooh Ooh. A better one is Modern English’s “I’ll Melt With You”. Really, I have no clue.

3.) My favorite office supply is Office Depot’s canned mace. I like to scream “RAPE!” and then spray the clueless store employee nearest to me. It’s the ONLY way to make an office supply store fun!

4.) Well, back in my heroin days…….. huh, I can’t remember.

5.) Finally, an interesting question! Most likely, this would be the insect smorgasbord I had in the 4th grade during science class. Our teacher was trying to show us that many things in the animal and plant kingdoms were edible. So I had grasshoppers in a salad, chocolate-covered ants, my first sardines–YUCK–kelp, I think some squid, and other bugs. I think my teacher went on to help create Fear Factor.

  3. !) I’m not really a furious person whilst driving so I probably just gripped the steering wheel a little tighter.

@) My favorite winter/snow song is “Colours” from ‘Floodland’ by The Sisters of Mercy.

    #) I heart big staplers.

$) I have no idea. I think I was a child & at a friends house in Edwardsville.

%) I tried Cantonese food once. It was very salty.

  4. 1)I don’t get furious, I get even. No really, I probably flew the bird or something lame like that.

    2) Wintertime song is “Baby, it’s cold outside.”

    3) Office supply stores have so much more than office supplies now. I love to look at cool desks and furniture that I can’t afford.

4)The first time in my memory, other than the parents house, is the main lodge at Copper Mountain the year it opened. I was 6 and got caught lighting matches and burning the paint off the natural gas pipes (didn’t know the whole gas part, it was cool to torch the paint.). Anyway, I got caught and they were going to tell my parents once they got down from working ski patrol. That threw me into overdrive nervous and I puked up my lungs and a pancreas.

    5) I, as well, am a very adventurous eater. I love to try new foods, ethnic foods, foods that shouldn’t be foods, etcetera. I am going to say Haggis. I was in Scotland and wanted some Scottish food, thought let’s try a traditional food. One bite into the Haggis and it was the grossest shit ever. Damn you William Wallace. Damn you to hell.

  5. 1. I think I mutter obscenities to myself in traffic, but no specific incidents stand out.

    2. For some bizarro reason, Dream Academy is evocative of winter landscapes to me.

    3. I agree with the Rev. I heart Post-it flags in myriad colors.

    4. Since I throw up almost constantly (and, I assure you, involuntarily)..there’s no way I can remember that far back.

    5. Rattlesnake, alligator and Wild Arctic Musk Ox (at The Fort). I’m also sure I ate something weird in Sri Lanka that I’m still blocking out.
