Friday Fives

You’re stranded on an island.

Not a completely desolate island. More along the lines that the boat delivering supplies only comes once every six months and will never, ever take you home. Decide what you’ll bring!

One celebrity: (I think I have asked this question before – but times change) This time around – Bob Dylan. He can sing songs, write poems and tell stories.

Two books: Huck Finn and Infinite Jest. Huck because it has the worlds wisdom. IJ because it is really, really, really long and funny.

Three edibles: Raspberries, Chicken and Bib lettuce. (I don’t so much care for bib lettuce, but bib is a funny word. I like saying bib. Bib, bib, bib.)

Four films: “It’s a Wonderful Life”; “Casablanca”; “The Great Escape”; “Miller’s Crossing”;

Five music albums: [Sprintsteen] Born to Run; [Bob Dylan] Blood on the Tracks; [Jerry Garcia and David Grisman] Shady Grove; [Elvis Costello] Greatest Hits; [Van Morrison] Moondance

  1. 1.) The cast from “Gilligan’s Island”. That’s more than one celebrity, but screw the rules. I want to live with them on my island forever!
2.) “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie and “The Sexualality of Mole Rats” by Michelle Obama.
3.) Pop Rocks, Gerber’s Baby Food (preferrbly oatmeal) and pickled onions.
4.) “Brazil”; “Perfume”; “Duck Soup”; old VCR tapes of “Caution Slow Children At Play”.
5.) “Flash Gordon” by Queen; “Vox Humana” by DA; “Tales of Mystery and Imagination” by Alan Parsons Project; “Solaris” soundtrack by Cliff Martinez.

  2. One celebrity: I was going to say someone rather large in case I needed to eat them, but then I saw item #3. So I would have to go with Rachel Ray, since she could help me cook the items dropped off by the boat and possibly discuss my books with me, and maybe we could do ‘it.’ to pass the time.
Two books: Hyperion and the Fall of Hyperion, by Dan Simmons I could read those two books forever. I try and make everyone I know read them, so I can about them with people. My wife hasn’t yet. Gosh, I’m going to miss her.
Three edibles: Spinach Salad with Blue Cheese, Swiss Fondue and Gyros. You’ll notice all these items have dairy. I am lactose intolerant. You did say I would mostly alone on the island, correct?
Four films: I never get sick of these. “The Crow”, “Fifth Element”, “A Fish called Wanda” “Lord of the Rings” Cheating by sneaking in a trilogy. I have be punished by less gyros rations.
Five music albums: Enya’s Shepard Moons, Soundtrack from American Graffiti, Best of the Doors, Metallica’s And justice for all… Pennywise’s Unknown Road.

  3. 1)Jessica Beil. Think sun and lots of time to “work it”
2)Cronicles of Narnia, James and the giant peach
3)Pizza, Peanut butter and Jelly samiches, Popcorn
4)Empire Strikes Back, Apocolypse Now, 12 Monkeys, Dune
5)Tool, Enema; Bruce Springsteen, Greatest hits; Step Into Liquid soundtrack; Led Zeppelin, Houses of the Holy; THe Atlanta Philharmonic, Carmena Burana

  4. One celebrity: Johnny Depp. He can be a pirate, Hunter S. Thompson and a wildly entertaining singer/serial killer all in one. I shall never be bored.
Two books: Wuthering Heights and The Iliad.
Three edibles: Acai berries, chicken and Guinness. I get my anti-oxidants, protein and superfood that way.
Four films: Lord of the Rings. Sorry, that counts as one. Breakfast Club. Finding Nemo. Moulin Rouge.
Five music albums: Slim’s American Country Music Changed Her Life, Peter Murphy’s Cascade, Devotchka’s How It Ends, The Complete Hank Williams and The Essential Johnny Cash.
