The Friday Fives

1. What is the best breakfast?

I like a big breakfast buffet, like you find at a hotel. Lots of choices, bacons, sausages, omelet station, tray full of scrambled eggs, all the pastries, bring it on.

2. What is the dream meal?

Imagining I am back on the meats – a big slice of Prime Rib with mashed potatoes, au jus gravy and some green beans.

3. What is the quick lunch you can craft?

Ramen with an egg, fish sauce, sriracha, soy sauce and a bit of nutritional yeast to give it a cheesy like umami.

4. What was the favorite childhood food memory?

My mom’s pot roast for supper. Delish. She had that dialed in to perfection. Served promptly at 6:30 and despite any extracurricular school activities, you were expected to be there.

5. What are your thoughts on Spam?

In my meat eating days it was a great go to for breakfast. Fried Spam and eggs was pretty great.

  1. 1) Although served under a lot of different names, i’ll call it the Green Meany – A bed of hashbrowns, a large buttermilk biscuit halved and set a bed pof hashbrowns, 2 eggs of medium on the biscuits, cover in sausage gravy then pour green chili over that.

    2) Unlimited sushi of any kind I want, until I puke.

    3) Tuna salad sushi rolls – mix up your basic tuna fish salad (however you like), then take a individual serving pack of dried seaweed and spoon on the tuna salad for easy tuna salad hand rolls.

    4) Hotdog Divan (also know as Birthday casserole in my family). Divan is pretty much any casserole type dish with a some sort of protein mixed with cheese, cream sauce and broccoli . Bake to perfection.

    5) It has been years since I have eaten any of the potted meat product line. Spam, vienna sausages, potted meat. But fried spam is pretty tasty.

  2. 1. I’m a sandwich fiend, so my favorite breakfast is crafting the perfect breakfast sandwich. My current favorite is the “Build Your Own” at La Fillette, I go croissant, over medium egg, bacon, swiss and roasted green chiles. Best fourteen bucks you’ll spend all week.

    2. Endless salad and breadsticks.

    3. Gochujang Buttered Noodles. A pantry staple that takes five minutes of prep–mostly chopping garlic–and requires next to no babysitting. ( https://tinyurl.com/5cd4fmph )

    4. Once when I was pretty little, my mom, grandma, and I decided to make a cherry pie. From scratch. Which included picking cherries off of a tree, pitting them, making the filling and crust. It was hands down THE BEST sour cherry pie ever made.

    5. I had a hatred of Spam growing up. My dad liked familiar foods, so things like Spam, chipped beef, and canned corned beef showed up on our table more often than I might have liked. As an adult, I rediscovered Spam in Hawaii, where it is beloved. Spam and eggs, Spam musubi, Spam loco moco, all changed my mind. While ultra processed and squeaky, it does have an undeniable appeal.
