The Friday Fives

1. Which movie has the best opening scene?

I love that opening from “Raiders of the Lost Ark” where the Paramount logo with the mountain top pans over to the jungle with the same mountain peak.

2. What are the three greatest crime movies of all time?

“The Sting” – a great caper film.

“The Ladykillers” – the Cohen Brothers remake

“The French Connection”

Runner Up: “Bullitt”

3. What film should everyone watch at least once in their life?

“Casablanca.” Get over yourself if you don’t watch old black-and-white films. This one is a gem with great cinematography and a top-notch script, and great acting.

4. What is your feel-good movie of choice?

I always get a bit teary eyed and chocked up watching “Finding Forester.”

5. What do you think is the greatest war film of all time?

“Saving Private Ryan”

  1. 1. “The Player.” Altman pulls off one of his longest continuous shots to begin the movie.

    2. “The Usual Suspects,” “The Italian Job,” (either one actually–they both have merits), and “Happy New Year,” (obscure film featuring Peter Falk as a jewel thief who uses elaborate disguises to play multiple characters).

    3. “Schindler’s List.”

    4. “Schindler’s List.”

    5. “Das Boot”

  2. 1) tie for me, either “Saving Private Ryanl or lThe Dark Night”. Both are just so impactful and set the tone for the rest of the film.

    2) “Fargo”, “Reservoir Dogs”, “A Bronx Tale”

    3) absolutely “Schindler’s List”, but since Rev_Ed already said that one I’ll say “The Power of One”.

    4) “Highlander”

    5) “Platoon”, or “Apocalypse Now”
