The Friday Fives

1. What’s the worst movie you’ve ever seen?

I have gone back to find the orginial movies for some of the Mystery Science Theater 3000 and can attest that TV’s Frank is correct, Manas, Hands of Fate is the worst.

2. What’s a great song that’s two minutes or less? “Rocky Racoon” by the Beatles. It tells a whole story and creates a great character narrative in about 90 seconds or so.

3. What is the absolute worst band name you can think of?
Well during the punk era I am sure some of the worst names have been used.
But “Puppy Dog Vomit” opens this week at the Paramount.

4. What’s the purest love song you’ve ever heard?
“Silly Love Songs” by Wings

5. What’s a band or artist you got into them late in their career?
I was in my 40s when I got into the Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia catalog

  1. 1) Freddy Got Fingered

    2) Although coming in at 2:02, Girlfriend in a Coma by The Smiths tells the whole story and the girlfriend is, in fact, in a coma throughout the entire song.

    3) There are quite a few out today that are just bland crap, but I have always thought Peaches and Herb was a pretty bad name. Liked the music back in the 70s, but peaches does not go with herbs of any sort.

    4) True Companion by March Cohn

    5) I got into the Beatles in college (1983) and they broke up in 1970.

  2. 1. The 1985 film “Private Resort” starring a young Johnny Depp’s in only his second film and Rob “Northern Exposure” Morrow. Wow. So bad. Getting laid isn’t that hard boys.

    2. Blitzkrieg Bop by the Ramones. 1:56 of pure Ramone-ness.

    3. The Dusty Springfield Incident. Limping Hipster. Whorehound. The Stabbing Monforts. (I have a running list on my phone.)

    4. “The Luckiest” by Ben Folds. Or “Question” by the Old 97’s.

    5. I got into Bobby Darin so late that he’d been dead for decades.

  3. 1) Freddy Got Fingered hands down. I was there and god damn Tony wouldn’t let me leave the theater. The only funny bit in the entire movie was about 5 min from the end there was a crowd scene and someone was holding up a poster that said, “Jesus fucking Christ is it almost over!”

    2) Song 2 by Blur

    3) The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, yes it’s a real band.

    4) Christy Moore – Black is the Colour

    5) Simon & Garfunkel I didn’t start listening or liking them until the 90’s.
