Friday Fives

1. What was your best Christmas memory?
Most of my Christmas memories are pretty great – but one I remember was as a child when Dad was trying to drive the family to Grand Junction in a blizzard. We pulled over and turned around before we got to Meeker. We ended up having Christams dinner gleaned from items bought at the Circle K. Good times.

2. What was your worst Christmas memory?
I had a really sad Christmas one year while in the Army. I was stationed in Germany and very homesick and spent the day in the dorms.

3. Do you have a “Christmas Story” moment – a great Christmas story that evokes tears of laughter and many, many re-tellings?
My Grandmother had a knack for very odd Christmas present giving. We still joke about a set of underwear she gave. She went on and on about them, explaining that Grandpa loved his and did her brother, whom she also gave a set to. “These are just any underwear,” became the family joking catch phrase for many years.

4. Did you ever get an inappropriate Christmas present? (think Grandma or maybe some well intentioned co worker for inspiration.)
Mom gave me a complete set of Allen wrenches one year – it was kind of odd. I gave, at a Festivus white elephant auction, a used gay port video tape that I bought at a used bookstore (just for this event, if you need to know all the details.). If that ain’t inappropriate gift giving, I don’t know what is.

5. Did you ever get an ugly Christmas sweater or something similar as a gift?
I used to get a sweater from the parents every year for Christmas. I remember one year not getting one and actually being a bit upset. Some of them were pretty “ugly” but for the most part they were pretty stylish.
