The Friday Fives

You’re ten years old:

1. What TV show were you watching?

Between about 8 years to about 11 years old I was obsessed with Saturday morning cartoons and programming. 10-years old so I was probably watching “Shazam!” I was pretty obsessed with that show as a boy.

2. What movie were you watching?

The Towering Inferno. I saw it in a theater with my dad. Great childhood memory. I still watch it now and again – if for no reason to witness the strong acting of O.J. Simpson

3. What book were you reading?

Probably a biography of a US president from the children’s library biography section – that part of the library fascinated me for some reason. There was a whole biography series by the same publisher and knowing Craig at the time they were probably pretty right wing and religious based. Oh well. I survived.

4. What song were you listening to?

Probably “Sunshine on my Shoulders” by John Denver. I know we had that on eight track and it was usually on heavy rotation.

5. What is the biggest memory of that time?

My bicycle and summers explorer the wilderness outside the neighborhood of my boyhood home.

  1. 1) Like Roy, Saturday morning was the jam, Land of the Lost and those damn sleestacks, the sweet little cave boy and the baby dinos, all good. BTW, watch out going into caves and falling off waterfalls.

    2) The Apple Dumpling Gang was the movie of the summer. Loved it and all those Disney live action movies.

    3) Encyclopedia Brown books. The boy was a genius detective and wore the glasses better than Harry Potter ever did.

    4) Sings along easy 70s, The Carpenters, Captain & Tennille.

    5) Summers in Morrison, climbing around Red Rocks and Mt. Falcon, tubing down Bear Creek, Cleaning fish for tourists at .05 cent/fish at the trout ranch down the hill, shooting bottle rockets into the Hells Angels bar in town. We were always outdoors until it was too dark and the parents yelled for us.
