When was the last time you…

1. …sent a handwritten letter?
It has been a long time, probably three or four years.

2. …baked something from scratch or made something by hand?
I bake bread quite often and make an amazing French baguette. It is on the list of things to do this weekend as a matter of fact. The last time was probably about three months ago, however.

3. …camped in a tent?
It has been years, although I take a trip with some college friends each year and instead of a tent, I generally sleep under the stars. The last trip, I slept on the trampoline deck of a catamaran.

4. …volunteered your time to church, school, or community?
This week’s questions have driven home the fact that I am a selfish bastard. Okay! You have made your point. I should do more for other people. Now get off my back.

5. …helped a stranger?
I try to always help the little old ladies in the grocery store reach for stuff. About two weeks ago I gave a lady a jump start in the parking lot of the grocery store.

Mrs. Beaver (If memory serves, a living saint.)

1. What’s the last place you traveled to, outside your own home state/country?
Las Vegas? Craig? The Wyoming/Colorado border at Baggs, Wyoming?

2. What’s the most bizarre/unusual thing that’s ever happened to you while traveling?
Getting really drunk, I mean like drunken soldiers drunk (in fact we were drunken soldiers!) while driving in a Jeep CJ7 across Europe and getting lost, I mean really lost. Bat shit lost in the tiny European country of Luxembourg. We were trying to get to Paris for the very famous Paris Airshow but kept taking wrong turns. So many wrong turns. And the beer was running out. And good German beer. We picked up cases of it at the brewery in Stuttgart and needed that beer to make the voyage. If the beer didn’t hold out – oh Lord! Eventually we found the interstate and got to Paris but a five hour detour in the thick of night in a country whose native language is still largely unknown (German? French? Flemish? Luxembourg-ese?), well, that is a fright. But then again, we were very drunk.

3. If you could take off to anywhere, money and time being no object, where would you go?
Finland, in the spring, just after the long nights, as the sun is just beginning to creep up and stay up all day and the snow filled horizon is glowing with blue and I have some friends, some music and some vodka and quiet.

4. Do you prefer traveling by plane, train or car?
Plane ( I love airports! and taking off!), then train (I love the whole Agatha Christie aspect of train travel, especially in Europe.) then car. The first five or so hours of good old fashioned road trip are great and full of fun energy. Then the boredom and the responsibility of the whole event sit in and I just sit behind the wheel and stew with a grimace.

5. What’s the next place on your list to visit?
New Orleans.

Thursday.

4. …got enough sleep?
Last night! Now that I have started this six day a week workout, sleep is not a problem.

5. …backed up your computer?
About three months ago. I take better care of my computer than I do myself.

1. Are you superstitious?
I am not one of those that tosses salt over the shoulder when I spill salt. I don’t worry about walking on a crack on a sidewalk and I have never had a bad thing happen to me on Friday the 13th. Really. I haven’t . But I have a hunch that perhaps there is an interconnectedness of events, people and things in this world and disrupting that interconnectness might be what we call a superstition. But then again, I also think most supernatural stuff is hockum.

2. What extremes have you heard of someone going to in the name of superstition?I know people who are genuinely spooked by Friday the 13th and don’t go to work. (That is not why I took the day off!) and I know folks who always perform a ritual when running a yellow light to prevent any bad things from happening.

3. Believer or not, what’s your favorite superstition?I love the whole story of breaking a mirror and getting seven years bad luck. And all the black cat superstitions. I have a black cat and no real ill side effects.

4. Do you believe in luck? If yes, do you have a lucky number/article of clothing/ritual?I want to believe in luck. I want to believe that you can key in to a lucky number or deed and it will bring you good things. But, again, its hockum.

5. Do you believe in astrology? Why or why not?No. I am a gemini and it means absoutely nothing. But then again, there is this interconnectness of the universe thing. Maybe it is all related. Crap my head hurts after this one.

1. What’s the most daring thing you’ve ever done?
Join the Army, attend Jump School and jump out of an airplane.

2. What one thing would you like to try that your mother/friend/significant other would never approve of?
Sex in public. (Hell, this is probably something I might not approve of. But everyone has a fantasy of some sort.)

3. On a scale of 1-10, what’s your risk factor? (1=never take risks, 10=it’s a lifestyle)
(4) I am moderately risky. And I talk a good risky talk, but tend to back out at the last minute.

4. What’s the best thing that’s ever happened to you as a result of being bold/risky?
By joining the army, I received a college education with most of my expenses paid and a bit of life experience to enable me to appreciate the experience.

5. … and what’s the worst?
Taking the job to edit the Gunnison Country Times when I had only been out of college a few months. I was so in over my head.

You have just won one million dollars:

1. Who do you call first?
My bank to make arrangements for a big ass deposit. Then Julie and Mom

2. What is the first thing you buy for yourself?
A Delorean or somekind of fancy fun to drive car. Then a fancy, fun to drive house.

3. What is the first thing you buy for someone else?
Pay off Mom’s farm and Julie’s college.

4. Do you give any away? If yes, to whom?
I would set up a nice trust for the Craig Library, which is having lots of money problems. The library was my Dad’s pride and joy.

5. Do you invest any? If so, how?
I would invest a good chunk to grow for later. Probably in a combination of long term tax free bonds and the Motley Fool’s investment formula. It has shown a decent track record of growth based on the Dow Jones top five stocks. (Man, did I just pull that out of my ass!)

However, I cannot find the exact quote.)
