Photo Blogs, Anyone?

Okay, time to share. We all have these fancy digital cameras now. And the technology to share, trade, post and display is everywhere.

I posted my first of hopefully many photos at my newly created photo blog – hereafter referred to as foto ffuts. Take a quick peek at Foto ffuts. The goal is to at least post something there once a week, perhaps calling it something very clever, like foto monday or something. These guys have put together a cool little service. You get a free account and can post one photo a day. Or if you are subscription inclined, for a $60.00 price tag, you can post up to six photos a day as well have access to an archiving system.

But as I traveled over the web looking at some fun photo finds, I think something like a photo blog could be real addictive:

Google Search: photo blogs
Fascinating Photo Esays & Tours | Metafilter
FREEWAYBLOGGER.com
(this gives me many ideas – oh the crime I could commit.)
And some more stuff I dug up a few months back:

Public Believes Hype . . .

I guess in a world where NASCAR and “Professional” wrestling are more popular than hockey, it shouldn’t be a surprise that the average Joe Six Pack has ill founded perceptions concerning the war in Irag. However this Knight Ridder article spells it out in great detail and unfortunately for Fox News executives, a good chunk of the blame might be placed on their shoulders – although I don’t think they necessarily care.

Friday Five

1. What vehicle do you drive?
2000 Ford Taurus. The Old Man Car, affectionately referred to as the ‘OMC’ by friends and family. But it is roomy, comfy, handles well, doesn’t do too badly with gas, despite being a V6 and has a pretty good sound system. For when I commute to work, I must rock.
2. How long have you had it?
February of 2002. It is the replacement vehicle after my sister rear ended me in my 1998 Ford Escort with a Ryder Truck. There is never anything good about moving.
3. What is the coolest feature on your vehicle?
The 10 CD changer deck in the trunk.
4. What is the most annoying thing about your vehicle?
There is this annoying short circuit in the windshield wipers – not enough of a bother to spend a couple of hundred bucks to fix it. As a result, the wipers will strike up at errant times and for no particular reason.
5. If money were no object, what vehicle would you be driving right now?
I am not a car horse kind of guy – but there is a new Ford Mustang coming out – either the 2004 or 2005 – that is one of the sexiest things I have seen in a long, long time.

Nextel Beckons

I have obsessed about this for a bit on this blog, but I have finally secured a job a Nextel. I start 10/20/03.
It is a raise and much better benefits than I am afforded in my current job at Finali. I get to keep my old start date of 1999 and I walk in the door fully vested.
The job is in the fraud prevention department. It is a basic customer interaction position in a pretty quiet and settled department within the risk management division in Nextel. I will be in the same building that I was laid off in 15 months ago.
This is coming at an excellent time. My roommate/sister has faced a downsized summer as well and some extra cash is going to help with some bills – as well as better hours, weekends off, holidays off and a complimentary cellphone.
It feels great.
I will miss the people I work with at Finali, but not necessarily the job as an email customer service representative. That aspect of the job had become quite tedious.
Maybe, with more normal hours, I can pursue some stand up or improv comedy and get my tuckus focused on using my brain and creativity once again.

Where The Hell Did My Job Go, Cont’d

Next week the September economic jobs numbers should come out. As I posted here a few months back, I like to visit the Bureau of Labor Standards monthly report on the employment situation to gauge how effective the Bush “Jobless Recovery” is. Remember, for the gigantic and grossly negligent Bush tax cut plan to really work it must create at least 344,000 jobs a month. (To get to the five million new jobs that the administration has promised. ) For August, that number was (- 97,000). The tax plan has yet to create any new jobs as demonstrated each month in the Administration’s own “Employment Situation Report.”
Of course, we can expect some back peddling on this and statements about how the government labor statistics, the government’s unemployment statistics, the governement’s financing foreclosure statistics, the government’s declining GDP statistics and the governments growing fiscal deficit are not accurate gauges of how the economy is doing. But I think I will let the numbers speak for themselves.

Maybe The Voters Are Catching On

I guess what makes this recent poll by Fox News interesting is that it is a recent poll by Fox news, the least objective, most flag-waving of the television news channels. With Bush now at an approval level of 50% and the so called “unnamed Democratic opponent” ( a popular hypothetical question with poll takers) running neck and neck with the President, there may be hope that the Republican gets put out of office in the next 14 months. We can only hope.

1. What size shoe do you wear?
A 9 or an 8 1/2 depending on the width. I have a pretty narrow foot.

2. How many pairs of shoes do you own?
Sixteen? I think it is about 16 pairs. Is that too many for a guy? I was told once that guys’ are supposed to only have three pair.

3. What type of shoe do you prefer (boots, sneakers, pumps, etc.)?
Casual loafers and Bass Men’s clogs – perfect for the office or home. Get a pair now at your local retailer. Offer not valid with any other discounts.

4. Describe your favorite pair of shoes. Why are they your favorite?
My Caterpiller&reg brand tennis shows. Real roomy and comfy and they are funky looking. What more can you ask for?

5. What’s the most you’ve spent on one pair of shoes? About $110.00 for a pair of civilian Desert Storm Army Tanker Boots from Corcoran. The company that makes the Army’s boots made this pair of suede tanker boots with lots of straps and buckles. They are pretty cool. I really should get them resoled.

Go! Get Out Of Denver

It was inspiring watching Bruce last night. If I can have that kind of energy when I am 54! Wow. A three hour show and one of the best of the few Springsteen shows I have seen (but then, again, I have said that about each show.)
I had 11th row floor seats, so the sound was great and the view of the stage was pretty good too. Invesco didn’t sellout but there were about 30,000 folks there – and they were loud.
Several observations: A lot of folks went to the concert just to see Bruce but had no idea what his shows are like. They were expecting a greatest hit album rehash and I noticed that as he played songs of his latest album then reached back into some early Born To Run and Greetings from Asbury Park song books, some “newbie” audience members just left the venue, obviously confused.
He is back to doing many of his famous stage antics. During Rosalita, he did the splits at the micorphone stand, ala James Brown (he is 54, let me remind you) and he did his “Pole” routines on the mic stand that he is famous for – hanging upside down from the mic stand while singing – you have see it to believe it. And he did his famous running – knee slides across the stage during a couple of numbers. He talked to the audience a lot more than when I last saw him last year – as he called out the audience to toss Dick Cheney out on his butt. He introduced Across the Border with a plea to remember the immigrants in our country who will do the work we won’t do and he plead with the audience to always hold the government and the politicians, regardless of which party is in power, to be accountable for their actions.
And he was having just a lot of fun. It was a high energy show. During the second ovation he pulled out his Rising producer Brendan O’Brien, who played along on guitar with the band. A good time was had by all.
