1. What was the worst storm you ever lived through?
There have been several blizzards. Pretty sure it was the 1982 Colorado Christmas blizzard – the entire state was socked in. We were traveling to my grandmother’s house, and we remember returning home and spending hours digging out vehicles and shoveling the walks and driveways after being away overnight. We were way behind the curve in getting a handle on the mess.
2. What is the coldest weather temperature that you have experienced?
Thirty degrees below zero – and school wasn’t closed !! At least I didn’t have to walk to school that day.
3. What is the hottest temperature that you have lived through?
I recall a particularly hot summer around 1994 or 1995 when the temperature reached 103 degrees, and there was no A/C.
4. How do you deal with strong winds?
I hate walking in the strong winds – I have a great rain/wind coat, but it still can be miserable. My mom lived in Baggs, WY, for a bit, and I distinctly remember that the wind never ever stopped blowing. How do I deal with it? Remain indoors.
5. What is the longest you have been outdoors stuck in extreme weather?
As a teen in the Boy Scouts, I remember a summer camp stay up in the mountains, and it rained nonstop for four days straight. I got good at playing card games as we were trapped in tents and the meal hall to stay out of the elements.
1) Early 2000s in Denver. Storm after storm hit, one with almost 3 feet in 48 hours. Crazy.
2) -92 wind chill in the Navy boot camp right on the shore of Lake Michigan. So frigging cold with the wind, humidity and lake effect. It was so cold, that the diesel fuel in my dad’s truck he drove up for my graduation gelled up and made it seize up till it thawed.
3) 119 F driving through Vegas a couple of years ago.
4) Not a wind fan as a homeowner. We have some big trees and wind makes me nervous. But I do have the house wired to just plug in a generator when the power goes out, so winning.
5) Riding out typhoons in Guam for 4 or 5 days was super fun.
1) 2003 was on shift and we were responding to fire alarms because if commercial buildings with flat roofs collapsing under the weight of the snow. It was crazy. We had to hike in over a block to get to a pregnant lady and the neighbor with a snowmobile helped us get her to the ambulance.
2) -22 but wind chill off the charts. Minnesota winters were no joke,
3) There were a few days in Colorado where it was 103-105 but still dint feel as hot as the 97° with 98% humidity of fucking Fort Lauderdale
4) Wind doesn’t bother me that much. And it can make big waves which I love watching.
5) I guess I’m a fair weather fan. Closest I’ve ever come is having the power go out for a week in Orlando after a hurricane roared through town. Lots & lots of wind and rain followed by hot humid & sweaty days and nights for a week after.
