Friday Fives

1. What movies come to mind when you think of great soundtracks?

One of my joys is listening to a Sirius/XM channel called Cine-Magic which is just movie soundtracks all the time. And John Barry of James Bond theme has scored some great soundtracks. Seriously, give the soundtrack to “Dances with Wolves” a listen.

2. What is a company perk that shows they really care about their employees?

Our office has a free soda fountain – unlimited Coke Zero is a win. We also have free roadside assistance which would be nice if I had a car.

3. If you woke up and it’s 2015 what would you do ?

I would pull out all the stops and do everything and anything to keep Donald Trump from winning the presidency.
The man is a soulless, jealous megalomaniac evil psychopath hell-bent on ending the modern world.

4. Which profession gets way too much respect for how little they actually do?

Land title abstract professionals. They get paid a lot to file some papers with local county clerks and courts to show that you own land. Kind of esoteric and could probably be replaced with AI and digitization.

5. What is one song that is socially acceptable to sing badly?

The Happy Birthday song.

  1. 1. For some reason, “The Sting” came to mind. Catchy instrumentals by Marvin Hamlisch really helped drive the film along.

    2. Anything that cuts errands out of my life. My first ever “posh” job had a concierge service which handled dry cleaning, shipping, pet sitting, etc. (The concierge was paid by the company, and of course you paid for any services.)

    3. Gotten a job, rather than be self employed. What a mess this has turned into.

    4. Insurance agents. Typically, they inherit their parent’s “book” and then borrow against it to buy up the books of retiring/dead agents. Such a Ponzi scheme.

  2. 1) Soundrack as in music, Almost Famous. Soundtrack as in movie instrumental, Last of the Mohicans.

    2) Two things when working in a hospital, 1) free food, physician lounge or cafeteria. 2) not taking out the 30 minute lunch break. IE: shift is 7-7 not making one work 7-7:30 because of a fucking 30 minute lunch break.

    3) Buy lots of sticks so that work is no longer a required thing in order to put groceries on the table and a roof over my head.

    4) Fucking firefighters. For fuck sakes they are highly paid fucking high school educated morons.

    5) Just a Friend by Biz Markie

  3. 1) Harold and Maude – a classic wacky 70s movie with an entire soundtrack by Cat Stevens.

    2) The last ad agency I worked for split paying for a suite a Ball Arena with Coors Brewing Company. It came with 15 tickets to all the events held there, was primo location, came with comfy seats, great views, closed circuit TVs and catering, leaving us all wondering what the peasants were doing when we were there.

    3) Nothing too terribly different, since i already had 3 young kids by then. So head down and kept a job to pay for the shitshow.

    4) Most upper management at corporations are useless. If you have one good senior manager, then they can train really solid middle managers and so on.

    5) Add It Up by the Violent Femmes.
