Jay and Todd

For the last few weeks, on Wednesdays, Big Head Todd, Todd Park Mohr, has been the guest host on the Jay Marvin show, on Denver’s Air America affiliate, AM760. And as long as the touring schedule holds out, Todd says he will try and show up each Wednesday. It has be a fun morning listen as Todd spells out his political philosophy and as Jay tries to teach Todd country music lyrics.
As special added bonus, during each of the commercial breaks, Todd plays live “bumpers” on his guitar, providing bluesy riffs from his oeuvre, or something new off the top of his head.
Fun.
And for those of you who don’t like Todd, too bad.
I had the chance, as a college student in Gunnison, to see Big Head Todd and the Monsters a number of times. Our student union hired them for lots of shows and festivals. There was a period in 1988 through about 1991 when the band could have easily been considered the Western State College house band.
On Archive.org under the audio tracks, I stumbled on a recording of one of their early shows in 1991, live in Breckenridge. Go dig it up, download it and toss it on the MP3 player or burn it. A good listen and a great way to bring back Todd memories from the earlier decade.

And while your are clicking through, take a bit to peruse Todd’s blog – lots and lots of writing and reading about philosophy. For a bluesman with a mean riff, he is certainly a deep, deep thinker and student of eastern and western philosophy.
