The Friday Fives

The Friday Fives

1. What’s a kind of food most people hate that you actually like?

Frozen pizzas. Specifically Totinos.  It’s comfort food.

2. What food do you just refuse to eat?

Mammals and birds

3. What’s the best cooking advice/tip you ever received?

Don’t cook anything on a stovetop on high. Low and slow will make a meal.

4. If you were a chef and restaurant owner, what kind of place would you operate?

A vegan taco truck.

5. What are some food + drinks combos that people should try out?

Good old fashioned Root Beet floats with ice cream.  It has fallen out of favor but still a great simple sweet snack.

  1. 1) Banana Moon Pies – started as a reminder of childhood and now is a tasty treat that I pick up at the local truck stop…and, no, it is not a pet name for truck stop johns.

    2) Something I refuse to eat? Weird question.

    3) Poaching salmon is the bomb. Also, there is substitutes you can make at home for almost any ingredient. I just made sour cream for a recipe from cashew yogurt and lemon juice. Worked perfectly.

    4) I really liked a little hole-in-the-wall place called Simply Sloppy. A really good idea that would be easy and it is yummy. Just a variety of sloppy joe recipes, it would be an easy food cart/truck concept.

    5) I once tried a shake and eggs tasty treat at a restaurant and it was pretty magnificent.

  2. 1) Black jelly beans are delightful.

    2) Shellfish. Not just because it would kill me but because they are bottom feeding rats and roaches of the sea. That’s just gross.

    3) sous vide is fucking legit. Best method ever.

    4) it’s a food truck called “Cheesus Crusts” it’s all different kinds of grilled cheeses. Different kinds of cheese, various stuffings. You get the idea.

    5) Mega stuff golden Oreos and a delightful cuppa coffee. Just a delight.
