Friday Fives

1. What if any instrument do you play?
I can play the saxophone and took organ lessons as a child, but I haven’t played an instrument for years. I am trying to learn the guitar, but I am not very focused at it.

2. If you could choose to play an instrument what would it be?
Acoustic steel blues guitar. I wanna be a bluesman.

3. If you were in a band, what would your band’s name be?
I was never good at this sort of thing. The master fo fun band names was Dave Berry. However, running through this I came up with Eric Cartman’s Sagittarius – a great band name.

4. What type of music would your band play?
Blues renditions and covers of 1980s new wave songs. I can hear them in my head and they rock. Now, to just figure out how to get them out of my head and on to disc.

5. Would you continue to be good for years to come, or would you and your band end up in Branson playing for bus loads of elderly?
The act described above is pure Branson material.

  1. 1. Gosh I play trumpet, piano, guitar…..guitar is my forte!
    2. Mandolin, it’s a delightful sound
    3. Edward and I decided on a name a couple years ago, “Pretty Imperfections”
    4. Indie Rock, folk, and traditional Irish/Scottish (that’s for me)
    5. Lol, eek….We’d probably end up dead, we already live the life of rock stars so with more money and booze we’d be dead.

  2. 1. I played the trombone for 5 years in middle and high school. And while I was first chair most of that time, I’ll confess I was never very good—I just worked very hard. My playing was mechanical and learned by rote. Much like my lovemaking.

    2. I’ve always wanted to be the piano man. Seriously. Being able to walk into any classy joint, tickle the ivories, and knock ‘em dead like Mandy or Fienstien or Connick Jr. or Rolf. *That’s* money baby.

    3. Lonesome Ed and the Ed-Tones.

    4. This is where it gets tricky. While I want to be able to play the piano, I was born to sing country. I mean crap—my life is one dead dog and a pick-up truck away from *being* a country song.

    5. WeÂ’d open in Branson. And stay there.

  3. !) I’ve played piano, guitar & sax in the past. With a bit o’ practice, I could probably pick up piano again but, I prefer to sing.

    @) I will learn the bass (upright & sideways) before I’m 35.

#) Pretty Imperfections. For some reason in my earlier 20’s, it rang true.

$) I used to say poppish rock with synthesizer washes but, that’s being done to death currently. I think it’s time shoegazing came back so, we’d be the new My Bloody Valentine/Slowdive but, with a harder edge.

%) I would want to stay good & branch out in every direction. I want to be part of a band who’s albums never sound the same.

  4. “My playing was mechanical and learned by rote. Much like my lovemaking.” -This ellicited a very loud guffaw from me at work.

  5. 1. I can’t play a thing. Until recently I had a beautiful semi-hollow body 1960’s bass, but after 8 years of not playing it ~ I decided to sell. I guess I’m not rock star material. But, you never, never know.

    2. I’d play bass, stand-up or regular. Or maybe the violin.

    3. Miasma

    4. Atmospheric stuff, sort of Spacemen 3 meets Dead Can Dance meets Spiritualized.

    5. I don’t think we’d be Branson material…we’d just fake our deaths in a spectacular bus crash and then retire to Majorca.

  6. 1. i took guitar lessons when i was young. as an adult, the ol’ ADD has made it difficult to concentrate on learning anything. at all. hopefully Ronnie Ritalin fixes all that.
    2. i’d play guitar.
    3. it would depend on the type of band. the hardcore band i was going to sing for in Chicago was called In Truth, which i always liked.
    4. maybe something along the lines of jawbreaker meets the smiths and alkaline trio. but more likely straight up hardcore.
    5. um, no.

  7. I’ll give you this, my band name. For the rest, you’ll have to hop over to Iamcorrect.com

    are you ready?
