The Friday Fives

1. Are you more comfortable being the new kid or the experienced one?
The experienced one. I think often about changing jobs and careers but I really don’t like being the new guy. In my present job, with years of experience as a manager, I am still the fumbling new guy trying to fit in in the new culture, after six months. Let me be the experienced one any d
ay.

2. When is the last time you were the new kid?
See above? In the recent post 9/11 world, i have had three new jobxs and each time I have been the new guy. In some environments, it was an easy fit, in others and constant struggle to let the real Roy fly.

3. If we met face to face, right now, what would my first impression be of you?
Freak who needs a haircut! Seriously, I don’t know. I can be down right charming and tend to go for the punchline immediately to disarm you. That said, I do know that it takes a few meets before people “get” me.

4. Who is the last person you said goodbye to?
Zac, at work last night as we left the building.

5. Joey, Jordan, Donnie, Danny or Jon?
I am not a Jordan! I guess I would have to go with Danny, for no real reason whatsoever.

  1. 1. IÂ’m more energized when IÂ’m the new kid. ThereÂ’s an intellectual challenge thatÂ’s part of learning a new environment, new interpersonal dynamics, etc. ThatÂ’s just me.

    2. For all intents, it was when I started my “new” job 5 years ago. I’m getting the itch to be a new kid again.

    3. Serious. Polished. A bit cold. I have more facets than the Hope diamond. IÂ’m exceptionally hard to get to know.

    4. I never cared for good-byes.

    5. Joey. Duh. He got better looking as he got older. *And* he still has a solo career.

  2. !) I’m probably more comfortable being the experienced one, however, enjoy being the new kid too because it’s exciting & challenging.

@) I was last a new kid in October of 2002 but, am currently seeking to be one again for various reasons dealing primarily with money & appreciation.

#) Gosh he looks relaxed today!

$) Isabella was the last “person” I said goodbye to. She raced me down the stairs (always dangerous) to the door after I said goodbye to Thom & Odin.

%) I’d have to go with Joey since I can’t think of the others except for Danny being a bit too Cro-Magnon looking.

  3. 1. I enjoy being the experienced kid cause as I get older, that’s what I am.
    2. Hmmm, not sure, gosh, maybe in college.
    3. “He should have a drink, take a week off.”
    4. Isabella and Odin together……so cute!
    5. Who are these people?

  4. 1. Experienced one. That’s why they call me “Sage”. Oh, and also because that’s what’s on my birth certificate.
    2. I’m a New Kid right now. And it sucks. I want to know where everything is, who to call when things go awry, what to say at all times, what to do at all times, and what scrub top to put with my red pants. Yes, red pants.
    3. I really have no idea what first impression people get of me. I really don’t.
    4. Last person I said goodbye to was Sara, the nurse with whom I’m training.
    5. Who, who, who, who and who? Seriously.. who are these people? I’m not joking. 98 degrees? what?

  5. It’s a dark day when people in our circle of friends do not recognize NKOTB by their first names…

(pssssst…New Kids On The Block. Admit it, you were a fan!)

  6. 1. i like being the experienced one. my various neuroses come to the surface far too readily when i am trying to figure too much shit out at once.
    2. i was the new kid february 4th, 2004. that’s when i started my current job.
    3. i’m not really sure…i don’t really think people know quite what to make of me at first. especially if i’m shouting.
    4. i said goodbye to jenn on the phone. she is taking care of her grandmother tonight, and the condo feels empty without her.
    5. what.

  7. 1. I prefer being the more experienced one. If I’m new, I tend to be very shy.
    2. 4/5/04 – day I started this job.
    3. No idea unless noticing the appalling zits on my face….thanks to the Great Heat Wave of Oh Five.
    4. Reid….followed by Zoe and her dog-buddy Luna.
    5. Until E2 mentioned it, I did *not* recognize the names. No NKOTB for me. Ever.
