1. Can you share a tale of a favorite summer cookout/get together?2. What is a favorite summer ritual of yours?
Of late, I think it is the annual pilgrimage to the gay rodeo in Jefferson County. What a spectacle. And cheap! Well, that and gallons and gallons of gin.
3. After a long hot summer day, what is your favorite way to quench your thirst?
Gallons and gallons of gin. Heh. Seriously though – ahem. I enjoy Gin or Vodka and tonic in the summer and I enjoy sitting on a deck of a nice bistro or restaurant on a Saturday afternoon and getting my snoot full.
4. The 4th of July is coming up, what plans, if any, do you have?
It is odd, but there don’t seem to be many plans. I have been invited up to the mountains to see some jam bands. And I am contemplating a trip to Greeley to see some rodeo, music and fireworks. And I am sure someone is going toss together a barbecue.
5. What are you looking forward to doing most before the summer ends?
I want to get up to my mom’s house and spend some time on the ranch – take in the beauty and solitude. I had a pretty action packed June already and some unplanned downtime is now my main goal.
!) This may sound as though I lived a stunted life prior but, my favorite memories are from last summer & the joy of getting to know all of you, recently dubbed “The Chain Gang o’ Love.”
@) I don’t know that I’ve ever had a summer ritual aside from getting arrested every 9 years. Due to my recent interest in landscaping, I think it shall be the cultivation of nature in my yard & pots.
#) I’ve always consumed vast amounts of water & have found it’s the best way to glide myself into inebriation once the sun has set. Sometimes, the sun it still up as there are no rules about drinking during the ghastly summer months (or delightful winter months, for that matter).
$) I’ve no plans aside from watching people “Ooooo” & “Aahhh” with Fom.
%) I look forward to one thing every summer & that’s a concert at Red Rocks. This year it’s Tori Amos, Imogen Heap & The Ditty Bops on September 5th. I’m simple like that.
1. ThatÂ’s a tough one, as we have sooooo many summer gatherings. IÂ’d have to say the first year the teens attended the Gay Rodeo was one of the more pleasant outings ever. It had been a stressful summer and year, and that was the first time the teens had all gathered in one place and were finally able to collectively exhale and re-bond. Oh, and the drag queens riding goats were pretty awesome too.
2. Sunset bike rides. I like choosing a direction, and taking off from my house around 7 pm, and seeing if I can get lost in a town I know all too well. I’ve made quite a few interesting discoveries this way—and been in the line of fire a few times (Denver has it’s share of really bad neighborhoods, it turns out).
3. I could write 1,000 characters on this subject alone. Beer. Of course beer is good year round. But in the summer, a frosted mug of draft American lager is just the thing. A well-made Tom Collins is a lovely summery drink. Pinot Grigio is so refreshing it practically drinks itself. I could go on. Ask me in person some time.
4. As I find the 4th to be among the most boring of holidays, I’m heading to the most boring of places—my parents’! I haven’t been home since Christmas, and since there’s nothing really going on in the city, I thought a quick trip over the divide (and back of course) wouldn’t kill me. And my liver will probably appreciate the respite as well.
5. This year, even if it kills me, IÂ’m going to take at least a weekÂ’s vacation time. IÂ’m sick of being the only one left in the office in July and August.
1. Oh lord, there are indeed too many fave summer festivities to count.. Although Gay Pride 1999 (I think that was the year we ended up swimming in the fountain), the First Gay Rodeo (same reason as Eddie mentioned), and our (on hiatus) Annual Tiki Parties strike a chord. With free-flowing booze and my most beloved chosen family around me, how can any event go awry? (missing clothing, stitches, bruises, rug burns and bent bed frames notwithstanding. ahem.)
2. The Gay Rodeo is up there amongst favorite rituals..
3. Believe it or not, when it’s really hot, a beer will do me right. It’s rare that I drink the stuff, but given the right conditions I do it with great aplomb.
4. I will be working 12 hour shifts at St. Joe’s all through this holiday weekend. I’m not disheartened, however – not only can I watch the works from the Helipad, but I get time and a half, MAN!
5. Probably Eddie and Mark’s birthday celebration.. That’s always a great time and it’s an excuse to gussy up.
1. i had a fantastic time for my 30th birthday party at jenn’s folks/mark and robert’s. fun times, indeed.
2. not sure of a favorite. least favorite is sweating.
3. several beers. preferrably ice cold heineken or ice cold budweiser. bottles of course.
4. we went to the rapids game and watched the post-game fireworks show at invesco. quite an impressive display.
5. COSTA RICA!!!
