Friday Fives

1. Today is the Autumnal Equinox, the end of summer and the beginning of fall. How was your summer?
Slow paced, kind of hot, especially July and oddly hot for September.  It went by quickly.

2. What’s the best movie to watch if you want to get into Halloween mood/autumn mood?
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (#1)

3. What’s your favorite thing about autumn?
I like the colors of the leaves, the cooler days and the cast of the glow of the sun falling in the evening. (It’s the hidden poet in me?)

4. Do you have any autumn traditions?
Not really. I will probably bake more bread and craft up a big ol’ pot of french onion soup.

5. What smell brings you back to your youth?
The smell of onions and green peppers sauteing in the skillet – the base of most of my mother’s meals.

  1. 1) Full of stuff and trips and more stuff. Over very quick, butt pretty darn fun.

    2) Don’t have one that gets me in that kinda mood.

    3) Cooler days with sunshine and less people in the mountains. Love it.

    4) This will be my second year of picking apples from trees around the neighborhood and dehydrating a shit ton of them to yummy apple chips. So the tradition is firmly in place.

    5) The fall wind in the mountains, it has a crisp cool smell that makes me think snow is coming.

  2. 1. Mine was a summer of cat vomit. One day the cat vomited fifteen times! Seriously, my summer activities were vastly curtailed by having a sick pet. He is much, much better.

    2. Sea of Love. A pre-surgery Ellen Barkin, and a post-surgery Al Pacino solve crime and fall in love on the Upper East Side. (I don’t know what time of year that movie takes place, but I didn’t really have an answer.)

    3. It isn’t winter.

    4. Buying and bagging green chilies. Watching more football than I even care about.

    5. Bacon frying. It was one sure way to get me out of bed in the summer.

  3. 1) Organic chemistry should not be taken in a shortened summer term.

    2) Ummm duh Halloween.

    3) Cooler days and the crisp air. However not around here. It’s still fucking 90+ and humid as shit! :/

    4) Nope.

    5) Camp. The smell of musty cabins that have been summer homes to countless boys over the years. Along with the air off the lake that just hits those memory switches.
