Friday Fives

1. If you could freeze time at the very second in your past that you wanted to LAST forever, holding that moment for eternity, what would that moment be?
The feeling in college when the first issue of the newspaper I edited came off the press. That was a pretty good feeling.

2. Have you ever finished in LAST place, whether during a race, a contest, a competition, an exam, or something else?
Not last especially, but very close. In the Army, a group of us decided to run a 10K race. And one of the guys with us was huge, huge guy, terribly out of shape. We ran the race with him and came in very close to the end. Some folks walking the race beat us.

3. Who’s the LAST person you talked with on the phone? E-mailed? Received an e-mail from? Hugged? Went out to lunch with? Thought about? Made something for? Made plans with? IM-ed?
Phone: Michelle; Emailed: Kevin; Received and email from: RABnurse (Sage): Hugged: Michelle; Lunch: (Does a late breakfast count?) Michelle; Thought about?: Mom; Made something for: my team at work; Made plans with: Michelle (Sedaris); IM-ed: Haven’t IM-ed in months.

4. When’s the LAST time that you did something nice just for yourself? What was it?
I am not married or with children so really, just about everything I do I do for myself (how selfish). Any time I go out for steak or sushi that is “something nice for myself.”

5. What do you think you’ll be doing on the LAST day of this month (February 28)? If you could choose a month and have it LAST forever (in other words, it would be July all the time from now on), which month would you choose and why?
Last day of the month? Working and getting two or three new employees settled in. Favorite month? October. I love a late crisp autumn.

  1. 1. ThatÂ’s a HARD question. There are simply too many climactic moments to pick just one.

    2. IÂ’m certain that I must have finished last at something or other, and thatÂ’s a HARD thing to take. You canÂ’t be great at everything, eh?

    3. Phone: My project manager Liz.
    E-mailed: My operations guy David.
Received an e-mail from? Why you Roy—ya silly bastard. Don’t you remember? You just sent it.

    Lunch: Oddly enough—probably Roy.
Thought about: IÂ’ve been thinking about Roy and how HARD these questions are.
Made something for: Drawing a blank.
Made plans with: Lots of people. IÂ’ve been busy planning my weekend. ItÂ’s intricate business.

    4. The last nice thing I did for myself: I bought [another] cashmere overcoat just because it was HARD to pass up such a good bargain.

    5. Feb 28: I plan to recover from my Oscar hangover. ItÂ’s HARD to pick one month to last forever. IÂ’d probably choose May

  2. 5. Feb 28: I plan to recover from my Oscar hangover. ItÂ’s HARD to pick one month to last forever. IÂ’d probably choose May over September. ThereÂ’s something about springÂ’s promise of renewal that energizes me.

  3. 1. there are many moments, but to pick one: game 7 Stanley Cup final ~ hand in hand with Reid and yelling our heads off as the Avalanche won. Or last Friday at the production of KA in Vegas. I could watch that forever.

    2. I was a highly uncoordinated youngster so I’m sure I was last at something PE related.

    3. phone: my mom

    received an email from: Kathy
    hugged: Reid
    lunch: with Reid in Vegas

    5. on feb. 28th, i’m sure i’ll be counting my various failures of the past month.
i’d have to say may. i love spring.

  5. 1. I concur with Eddie – too many to list for this tiny little comment box. It’s easy to rack up a shitload of good moments with you people around.
    2. I, too, am sure that I came in last at SOMEthing.. just not sure what. I was probably so behind that I forgot I started it in the first place.
    3. Phone? Jenn. E-mailed? Mom. Received an e-mail from? Edward. Hugged? Doodle. Went out to lunch with? James. Thought about? Roy (a formidable chess opponent) Made something for? Eddie. Made plans with? Jenn & Reid. IM-ed? MJ.
    4. Something nice for myself? Does pouring my Friday cocktail count?
    5. February 28th will likely see me convalescing from a doozie of a hangover, what with Horvath’s bday and Oscar’s party. It’s gunna be a long one.

  6. 1.) I can’t say that I’d do that. Freeze your life and forgo all of the things ahead of you? I think not. If I had to pick one second though, I’d have to say it was the first time my first hit of E kicked in. Nothing quite like it and it was pure ectasy.

2.) Not to my knowledge. I’m fiercely competitive, even at things I suck at.

3.) phone: Steph, my sister-in-law. E-mailed: Andrew, a friend in San Antonio. Rc’d e-mail: Edward. Hugged: Tory. Lunch: Reid. Thought about: Edward & thom. Made Something For: Thom & Edward. Made plans with: Tory, Chris & Jake. IM-ed: Ed.

4.) A couple of weeks ago, I bought a few things I wanted: a new jacket, a needle for my turntable and an optical Toslink switch.

5.) Recovering from the Oscar party and trying to find the Cure ( not Robert Smith, the disease ) through a lingering booze haze. My eternal month would be May. Just warm enough for everything to be in bloom but not hot enough to be a nuisance.
