Friday Fives

1. Where did you go the last time you took an airplane ride?

To beautiful and scenic Hampden Roads and the historic Chesapeake Bay.

2. Are you a nervous flyer or a comfortable flyer?

I love flying.  It may be too early to quote Louie CK, but as he says – “We are in the air! We are actually flying in the fucking air!”   What is not to love.

3. Window seat or aisle seat?

Window all the way.  I dig watching it all go by and watching the takeoffs and landings from the window.

4. What is the worst experience you’ve had flying?

Flying from Denver to Hayden on the old Rocky Mountain Airways (“Rocky Mountain Scareways”)  Old propeller planes that could barely get to 18,000 or so thousand feet that felt like you were touching the mountain tops and tons of uncomfortable turbulence.  I also had some frightening flights on some army helicopters but those were pleasure trips and the pilot was trying to scare me.

5. What is the best experience you’ve had flying?

Flying to Europe on Lufthansa in my army dress uniform. I got bumped to the front row in first class and crossing the ocean was never so comfortable.

  1. 1) You get brothers house for a family Christmas.

    2) I’m very accepting of flying but being my size I’m uncomfortable due to the limited space provided. When I win the Powerball it’s going to be first class all the way.

    3) Don’t care. I usually am reading or unconscious.

    4) Flying from Charolette to Denver returning from England, so it’s the second leg and I get stuck in 3/4 of a seat because the person. Etc to me is so giant that they literally overflow into my seat. The flight attendant felt so bad for me she gave me a 200$ voucher.

    5) Flying from NJ back to Denver, flight is full so they ask for volunteers. I step up and get a free ticket for my hassle. Then it turns out someone didn’t show for the flight so I get first class and the free ticket! No other trip comes close!

  2. 1) Hmmm, being self employed my business travel, which was plenty, has ceased. Probably Florida.

    2) Very comfortable. The more turbulence, the faster I go to sleep..

    3) Either, but I go for the exit row for legroom.

    4) Probably my trip back from South Africa. 23 hours in the air (19 in one leg). Stuck in a front row seat again the bulkhead. I still have neck problems from that flight. Even tried to buy two seats for room and sleep, since first was booked. No go. And the stop in north Africa, where they walk the cabin with mosquito repellent smoke canisters was, well, disturbing.

    5) Like Roy, got bumped to first class when in uniform on a long leg from Japan to Guam. Lovely.
