Friday Fives

1. Do you like traveling or are you counting the minutes until the transporter is perfected?

Yes, but saying that I rarely do it. I agree with the premise of the question – if the transporter were ever invented, I would certainly be inclined to lots more instant travel.

2. If you could visit any country in the world right now, where would you go?

I want to go to either Finland (for no reason I can really call upon, perhaps the amazing scenery) and/or Tokyo, Japan, because that place is just so darn weird.

3. What is your favorite form of travel?

I love driving and I am a very patient driving. I also like flying and in a weird way, I also like airports, which is odd because they aren’t really created to be enjoyed so much as utilitarian.

4. What is the longest vacation/holiday that you’ve ever been on?

As a child, we took a weeklong drive across the midwest to see some friends in Minnesota. As a grown up, it was probably a four-day trip I took to the coast of Spain while I was stationed in Germany.

5. Would you travel for a living?

I thought about it and I have taken a few business trips but I think the luster would be gone if I had to do it a lot. I have a friend who travels almost every week and watching her comings and goings on Facebook is exhausting.

  1. 1) I do like traveling. I have flown and driven all over the country and the globe. I am not a fan of the idea of an instant transporter. it would give every yahoo access to really cool destinations. Sort of like Facebook has done to friendship. To go see cool places, you gotta work for it, not just be given it.

    2) Still high on my list is Czech Republic and Australia. Is there a train that goes between the two?

    3) I do like driving, but also train is nice too. Just sit back and let someone else do the driving. Airline travel is efficient and convenient, it just sucks now.

    4) It was kind of a two week wrk vacation to South Africa. Cape Town is super duper cool.

    5) I would love to travel (driving or train) for a living, if I had someone to do it with.

  3. 1. I do love travel. I must confess, that as an introvert, I find it stressful and exhausting. Still, I do love the journey–sometimes more than the destination.

    2. I’d probably go to eastern Germany. Specifically Leipzig, Dresden, and Berlin. I loved my brief visit to Berlin, and I understand that Leipzig is a true contemporary art hub. And Dresden just happens to be along the way, along with it’s famous porcelain carillon.

    3. Air travel–as high of a class seat as can be afforded please. There is nothing that can replace 12 hours of being sucked up to by a flight crew who are all too happy to serve you booze the whole time. (Shoutout to my good friends at Lufthansa!)

    4. My longest trip was about three weeks in Italy, Spain, Germany and Austria. However, that was for work so I guess it doesn’t count. For a vacation, I think I spend ten days in Kauai and Oahu.

    5. To a degree I’ve done that before. I’d say 25% travel is the most I’d sign on for. That’s enough to give you fresh perspectives, but also allows one to maintain a home life. Anything more, and your life becomes something that you attempt to schedule around trips.

  4. 1) Travel is not something I either dread nor look forward to. The company associated with the travel and the destination I look forward to. Road trips with friends are the best.
    2) I really want to visit Australia and Iceland. They both intrigue me.
    3) I love the friends road trip. It’s great. The rest of travel modes usually put me to sleep.
    4) Went to England for 3 weeks. One visiting a friend at his house on the North Sea, then two weeks in London with my parents. A great trip.
    5) Sure but it better come with a huge paycheck and benefits.
