Friday Fives

Friday Fives

1. Are you a spontaneous person, a planner, or somewhere in-between? Have you ever gone on a spur-of-the-moment road trip or vacation? When, and did you have fun?
I am generally a spontaneous person. Having my life planned out in great detail makes me nervous and anxious. That being said, I would probably be more successful in my personal and professional life if I took the time to have a more definite plan.

2. Are you a hockey fan, and what are doing in the abscence of the Avalanche? Do you watch a lot of sports on TV? What is your favorite sports watching food?
I love watching hockey and my life is a little empty without it. I gorged myself on politics for a while to stem the tide, but that’s over. I am trying to replace hockey with football, but I just don’t seem to care as much, especially for any other team besides the local favorites, The Denver Broncos. I tried to watch basketball for a bit, but I just can’t respect the basketball players. They are thugs. Soccer, golf, bowling – boring, boring and boring. For food, is snack foods all the way. Popcorn, chips and salsa and salted peanuts.

3. If someone gave you $25 right now and said that you had to spend it within the hour, what would you buy and why?
Breakfast. It’s early, its Friday and I am hungry.

4. Name three things that you’re looking forward to in the near future and why.
A promotion at work? (Nothing even close to definite in that vein.) Thanksgiving and time with the family at the ranch. The weekend and taking in some live music with friends.

5. Do you know any foreign languages? Which ones? If you could become fluent in any language [writing and speaking it], which one would you pick and why?
Nope. I lived in Germany for three years and although I got so I could understand it pretty much, I never really learned it. If I could learn one language, it would be Spanish. It is so useable, personally and professionally and would open up so many more restaurant opportunities in Denver if I could venture deep into the barrio and order “off the menu.”

Somewhere in between. Years ago, Sarah Rogers and I decided to drive to Hollywood after drinking a bottle of tequila. Crazy trip, great fun. The hangover was something else, though. Nowadays, I’m a bit more “plan ahead” oriented.

I miss hockey. I don’t, however, miss Reid’s unbridled “enthusiasm” for the 75+ televised games. I watch the Broncos, sometimes the Nuggets, but would always rather go to a game than watch on TV. Favorite sports-watching food…..Marty’s chicken and green chili burritos.

  2. 3. If someone gave you $25 right now and said that you had to spend it within the hour, what would you buy and why?
IÂ’ve been reading a lot lately, so IÂ’d run to Capital Hill Used Books & buy some books.

    4. Name three things that you’re looking forward to in the near future and why.
I took today off so IÂ’m looking forward to two more days off after this one, making spaghetti sauce and Social D tonight.

    5. Do you know any foreign languages? Which ones? If you could become fluent in any language [writing and speaking it], which one would you pick and why?
I came the closest to learning French (9 years of it), have also taken Mandarin, German, Spanish, conversational Italian and Ancient Greek. IÂ’ve invested the most into French, so IÂ’d probably choose that to learn fluently (although Spanish *is* more practical).

  3. 1. I like to be spontaneous. I once went to Las Vegas during Spring Break on a lark with a guy I didn’t know very well at the time (we later ended up dating for a time). Yes I had a great time.

    2. I wouldn’t call myself a die-hard fan. I like to watch on occasion with other people. I can never watch a game by myself. So really I haven’t missed the season very much.

    3. I think booze would be in order. It is the weekend after all.

    4. Beginning graduate school (hopefully in June barring catastrophe), going out to breakfast this weekend (it’s become a must every weekend), sleeping in tomorrow.

    5. I speak German fluently, but have studied a bit of Spanish and Japanese. I wish I could speak Spanish better. That German does me absolutely no good when working in the “hood”.

  4. 1. Are you a spontaneous person, a planner, or somewhere in-between? Have you ever gone on a spur-of-the-moment road trip or vacation? When, and did you have fun?
I am somewhere inbetween. no, i have never gone on a spontaneous trip as described. I am certain that it would have ended in disaster if i ever had.

. Are you a hockey fan, and what are doing in the abscence of the Avalanche? Do you watch a lot of sports on TV? What is your favorite sports watching food?
Oh jesus am i ever a hockey fan. in the absence of the Avs, I have been drinking. I should be playing hockey instead, but it’s easier to just drink beer instead. i watch pretty much all sports except golf. I am a Cubs, Avs, Eagles, Broncos and Nuggets fan. my favorite sportstime food is by far and away beer.

  5. 3. If someone gave you $25 right now and said that you had to spend it within the hour, what would you buy and why?
i would buy a twelve pack and the new Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds cd.

    4. Name three things that you’re looking forward to in the near future and why.
snowboarding (yay), Social Distortion tonight (yay), and Jenn’s bday party (yay).

    5. Do you know any foreign languages? Which ones? If you could become fluent in any language [writing and speaking it], which one would you pick and why?
I am decent in spanish. can read and write better than listen and speak. I would really like to learn Japanese…i think it’s an amazing language.

  6. 1. Are you a spontaneous person, a planner, or somewhere in-between? Have you ever gone on a spur-of-the-moment road trip or vacation? When, and did you have fun?

Plan your work, work your plan. I lack the spontaneity gene. Unless IÂ’m drunk. Then no one knows what (or who) IÂ’ll do. Unlike RW, I need to learn to worry less about errands and planning, and fly by the seat of my (or who knows whose?) pants.

    2. Are you a hockey fan, and what are doing in the absence of the Avalanche? Do you watch a lot of sports on TV? What is your favorite sports watching food?

I also love hockey. ItÂ’s the perfect mix of planning and spontaneity (good segue way, RW), and a winter without it will be devoid of some joy. In absence? I guess even *more* Iron Chef and masturbation. As for snacks? Supernachos and beer after beer.

  7. 3. If someone gave you $25 right now and said that you had to spend it within the hour, what would you buy and why?

IÂ’d go to the liquor store. $25 is exactly the right amount to spend on a bottle of wine that one neither needs, nor [perhaps] deserves.

    4. Name three things that you’re looking forward to in the near future and why.
    1. Getting this whole “relocation” thing resolved once and for all. 2. My dad’s surgery to be over and done with successfully. 3. Get back in the dating pool. I’ve been reclusive and anti-social lately and need to break out of tha.

    5. Do you know any foreign languages? Which ones? If you could become fluent in any language [writing and speaking it], which one would you pick and why?
IÂ’M AN AMERICAN!!!! IÂ’M FROM OUT OF TOWN!!!!! If I could speak any languages. . .IÂ’d prefer to be fluent in French or Italian. Both sound so passionate and elegant. (Although German is on my mind a lot these days as well. )

  8. 1. I am very spontaneous. I have gone to Vegas (twice) and Florida (spring break) on less than a days notice.

    2. I am a Hockey fan. However my disdain for professional athletes prevents me from missing them too much. Go Pioneers! National champs!

    3. A 12 pack, A couple of DVD’s and some Chinese take out!

    4. I am looking forward to my life not sucking anymore. Just that really.

    5. I studied Russian in high school for 2 years and for another 2 semesters in college. Can’t speak it though. I would love to be fluent in Spanish. All the European languages would be nice because I really want to travel there and I don’t want anyone to know where I’m from.
