Air America Public Spat

Driving home from work last night, I listened to the Majority Report on Air America. Janeane Garofalo and Sam Seder were having a very heated fight about the appropriateness of using the show to taut some sort of Scientology thing that Janeane was pushing. It was pretty gripping radio as Seder was really hot under the collar. It was no mere tiff, no spat. Seder and Garofalo were calling each other names and baiting each other back and forth. The arguement seems to be a continuation of a long running conflict the two hosts are having about a guest and segment in April. Earlier this year, apparently, Janeane pushed some sort of detoxification therapy that is becoming popular in New York. And Seder called her on it, saying it was Scientology BS. Last night, that argument rose its head again and she then countered that if it is was some “Jewish thing” he would be supporting it. Apparently that was the breaking point. Seder went to commercial and when the show returned, Janeane said that Seder wouldn’t be back for the rest of the show.

Looking up something about it, I stumbled on a great little blog that tracks things like Scientology, “Cult News.” The article explains what I always thought was true, that Garofalo was considered an athiestist or agnostic at best and the site’s author was as surprised as the rest of us listeners at her very emotional defense of some wacky Hubberd based detoxification recipe. (A short description of the process is explained in the link.)
It will be interesting to see if Janeane and Sam will be able to make nice and return together on Monday.

Update: Daily Kos has a diary up this bru ha ha now as well.
